The Facilitation of the Kingdom of Belgium of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) thanks you for confirming your participation in the “Follow-up expert meeting on the International Conference on security, the fight against poaching, monitoring transhumance and armed groups circulating between the Sahel and Equatorial Africa”, and/or the “CBFP Civil Society Day” and/or the “Seventh CBFP Council Meeting” which will take place from 16 to 19 December 2019 in Douala, Cameroon.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES. To take ownership of the participatory forestry roadmap and the development of its toolbox, as well as relevant initiatives that are ongoing or likely to be developed under emerging themes, in order to strengthen the capacities of civil society and local communities to work towards biodiversity conservation while improving the socio-economic status of IPCLs:
The meetings will be organized with the financial and technical support of the Consortium of the CBFP Facilitation of the Kingdom of the Belgium comprising the German Ministry of Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Union (DEVCO) and the Kingdom of Belgium. The seventh Council Meeting will close with the handover of the CBFP from the Kingdom of Belgium (outgoing) to the Federal Republic of Germany (incoming).
The Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) run by the Kingdom of Belgium, in close collaboration with the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) and the Government of the Republic of Cameroon, will be organizing a technical meeting of experts and resource persons to move forward with the effective implementation of the recommendations of the international conference of ministers held in N'Djamena. The expert meeting will take place on 16 and 17 December 2019in Douala, Cameroon.

The first day of the MoP will be mainly devoted to technical exchanges, organized around a "scientific" day and a "private sector" day (technical segment), the conclusions and recommendations of which will feed the debates and the commitments. during the second day (political segment).
Efforts to conserve forests, such as through REDD in DRC and the wider Congo Basin, are largely premised on increasingly contested deforestation analyses that point to subsistence ‘slash and burn‘ agriculture and charcoal production as the main underlying drivers of deforestation. Meanwhile, community forestry and similar approaches to forest protection that have proven effective elsewhere in the tropics have been largely peripheral.
The Congo Basin Forest Partnership Meeting of Parties is being held in Europe for the first time, offering a timely opportunity to bring Congo Basin grassroots groups together in a room with representatives from Governments and Regional Institutions from the Congo Basin, European funders and NGOs to have an open discussion about some of the opportunities and challenges of funding grassroots-led conservation in the Congo Basin.

During the 18th Meeting of Parties, the CBFP as the unique global platform that promotes the Congo Basin forests, will give its members an opportunity to showcase and inform the public on their objectives, priorities, programs and activities. In keeping with past practice, an exhibition area will be set up on 27 and 28 November 2018 in Brussels (Belgium).

The Kingdom of Belgium Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) is pleased to announce that the fourth CBFP Council meeting will take place on 1 June 2018 in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.
The meeting was opened by the Chairperson, M. Anders Henriksson, EU Facilitator of the CBFP. He said he was pleased with the participation of all college representatives on the Board. This mobilisation is clear evidence of the continuous committment of all the partners to make CBFP governance reform successful.
